How to Win the Lottery – Not the PowerBall, You Nitwits!

In case you didn’t know, today is one of my favorite days in the NBA: the Draft Lottery! Today we get to see the NBA’s corruption justice system at work, as the league’s worst 14 teams find out their position in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Honestly, the event itself is super lame, but the unintentional comedy is unbelievable. Imagine watching The Bachelor results, except instead of 14 gorgeous women you have 14 goofy owners/team executives. Not only are the celebrations top notch, but even better are the begrudging golf claps from the teams who “lose.” Don’t believe me? Check this out:

Unbelievable, right? Is there anything funnier than watching plump, dorky, extremely rich guys celebrate without trying to rub it into everyone else’s faces on national TV? Actually yes, there is. I offer some suggestions to improve the NBA Draft Lottery: Continue reading

The MulchPile Summer Playlist of the Week

Since my first playlist post received such a positive response, I’ve decided to make the MulchPile playlists into semi-weekly feature (and by “semi-weekly”, I mean “a recurring thing that happens when I get around to making it”).

I think I’ve said this before, but summer is my favorite time of year to listen to new tunes in the car, because you can put the windows down and really “share” your taste in music. I’m sure most people probably find it really obnoxious, but for some reason there’s a coolness factor you can’t help but feel when bumping your music.

One more thing before we get into the music – these playlists are actually self-serving for me, because I drive the only car in the world made after 2006 that doesn’t have an iPod hookup, which means I’m forced to make mix CD’s for my car. As you can imagine, new mixes are being put together rather regularly to avoid boredom, and it’s these mixes that I’ll use for the playlists on here.

Okay, enough chatter, let’s get to the playlist. As usual, here’s the track list, and after that I’ll offer my comments on each song: Continue reading

The Original Ultimate Summer Playlist

Although I have one of the earliest birthdays of all my friends, in high school I was one of the last to get my driver’s license (although I passed on the first try after learning to parallel park the day before, so there). Because of this, during the summer before my junior year I was the ultimate ride mooch, relying most on my buddy Pat. Although I never offered Pat any gas money, and my company probably wasn’t as enjoyable as I’d like to think, we drove together everywhere. In fact, I’d estimate that 10% of my summer was spent in that car.

At the time, Pat was a huge rap fan like myself, so our in-ride music was always epic. This was extremely important because Pat’s CD changer, much like the rest his car, was crap, so the chances of you ever getting a CD out of the player were very slim. Basically, if you were going to be stuck with one playlist to listen to for months at a time until the CD player decided to spit it out, it had better be a good one.

At the very beginning of the summer, Pat made a playlist for his car that, to this day, is the single best-constructed mix-CD I have ever experienced. I can’t really explain why, but it just is. Each of the songs are great individually, but when they came together on this mix, something magic happened. We listened to this CD for that entire summer, never once even considering trying to switch it out.

So, with summer approaching, I thought I’d share this classic tracklist with you guys in case you were looking for some tunes to bump. After all, ’tis the season to put the windows down and show off your speakers.

Before we go into detail, here is the playlist overview with the song, artist, and album in parentheses: Continue reading
